PARADOX: a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth.
"Eating fat makes you fat, right? WRONG. Dead wrong. In fact, eating fat is the key to your getting NOT FAT and elevating your health. Fat is a tremendous source of nourishment. It's delicious, sating and our brains and bodies love and need it."

Why Favor Fat?
ONE word: freedom.
I want to help you liberate yourself from the ill effects of shitty nutrition, as well as the diet/scale related self-harming thoughts and behaviors. And enjoy the freedom you’ll find in being nourished, feeling vibrant and being NOT FAT. Food is our body’s fuel system, and most of us are running on empty despite round the clock eating and our ever increasing fatness. In America, 70% of the population is overweight or obese (including 20% of our kids) and nearly 90% of us are metabolically sick (which means that just because you're NOT FAT doesn't mean you're healthy). This is both a health crisis and our nation’s number one threat. But the good news is that your fatness and/or metabolic sickness is fixable: each time we eat, we all have the solution at hand -- to choose true nourishment over fake products and the incessant marketing machine that is slowly murdering middle America. And while 90% are metabolically sick, 100% of us are sick of hearing that we simply need to “move more and eat less” and that “all calories are the same.” This is bullshit. And these fabrications were created by companies to sell you fake food which makes you fat and sick, tipping the scales and robbing your cells of the nutrients they need. The worst part is that you’re part of the cycle each and every time you buy this crap. Or maybe the worst part is that “science” behind the vast majority of “nutrition studies” cited by people telling you to eat this or that or eat less/ move more is super weak, epidemiological (as in only showing a correlation, not a causation) evidence. The real problem is that we’re surrounded by garbage – fake, processed pseudo foods filled with chemicals, additives and preservatives. A lot of it as marketed as "healthy" with BS "heart-healthy" labels and claims of nutritional or moral valor. The new LOL vegan lab meats are a great example as they're not only filled with sugar, corn and soy additives and FETAL BOVINE SERUM... as in not vegan nor animal friendly at all!!! (Spoiler alert: nourishing foods don't tend to have marketing slogans and I should know, I'm a 20-year career marketer.) This junk wreaks havoc on our bodies inside and out, from our immune systems to our waistlines. It’s ubiquitous and cheap. And its robbing us of our health. YOU have the power, ability and solution within you to improve your health. Real, whole foods are nature’s beautiful and bountiful gift of health and wellness available to us all. And this lifestyle is both delicious and suck-factor free. Pretty damn good, right? What if I told you that you can eat like that until you’re sated – no starvation or counting calories or other bogus BS? And that this will result in weight loss and does not involve any secret formulas/pills, programs, or gym memberships? I created Favor Fat to help you find the key to your fat and/or undernourished jail cell and free yourself from all of the confusion, lies and failed past attempts at being NOT FAT. My goals are three-fold: 1) for you to nourish yourself, feel so much better and get NOT FAT; 2) for you to have fun; and 3) for you to feel that I should be charging more for my services and instead of offering to pay more, tell your fat and undernourished friends to work with me. Seriously. I’ve spent most of my life interested in “nutrition”, fitness and health, and even worked as a personal trainer and triathlon coach ("back in '82" I was at the triathlon age group nationals). Now I’m a Zumba instructor and have owned a successful marketing consulting business for 12 years. None of this certifies me to help you -- my actual nutrition certification and journey do, but the rest of it demonstrates that I’ve got my shit together. Most of the time. My health journey started with my first diet at aged 10 when I started memorizing calorie counts (I was a ballerina and not thin which was a big, fat problem), and includes countless other dumb diets, plus my “experience” being a laxative and then exercise bulimic in my teens and early 20s. All this led to feeling terrible, delayed development and finally, thank goodness, some sense that I needed to eat well to feel well. All through my 30’s I would’ve been considered “healthy” except for my overly amorous love of wine, but the middle-aged bulge was starting despite “eating right” and exercising a lot. Too much. Circa 2017, right as the big 4-0 was approaching for me, I heard a podcast with celebrity trainer, Vinnie Tortorich, who made sense with his NSNG (no sugar, no grain) message. From there I proceeded to devour (pun intended) research on nutrition and health including the book that transformed the way I understand food and health, The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz. I’ve since listened to thousands of hours of podcasts, attended a transformative low carb conference, and finally, become a Nutrition Network Advisor through The Noakes Foundation. Plus I became NOT FAT and improved my biomarkers all the while eating the foods I was taught (and taught others as a personal trainer) were "bad" and to be avoided by all "good" fat-phobic folk. All of this brings me right back to my college dream of helping treat eating disordered patients with nutrition and fitness, which is what ultimately helped me recover. In the 20 years since I delayed this dream, the irony is that my goal is still the same: to help people nourish their bodies and souls with nutrition and fitness. The difference made by two decades is that the prevalence of disordered eating, fatness and obesity-and diet-driven diseases have exploded. You can free yourself from feeling like shit, like a failure and the thought that you should just work out more. You can become NOT FAT. And I would be honored to help you nourish yourself to elevated health. |
